I have a Precedent Carryall 2 Plus. I have a nice electric low pressure fuel pump and I want to install it.

The cart starts with a key and then idles. I guess that is called keyed start So, where do I connect the hot wire on my fuel pump?

When I push down on the gas pedal, a cam contacts a microswitch that shuts off power to the starter. I assume that is intended to let the generator take over and replenish the battery once the cart is in motion, while also turning off the starter while the cart is moving.

The thing is, where can I hook my hot wire to the fuel pump so that it keeps power once the cart is moving? I hooked it to the starter and it got power until I pressed the gas pedal and then the microswitch engaged and killed the power. It ran until the gas ran out of the line and then died. Is there a place to wire the fuel pump that gets power when the cart is in motion? I can't find a single wire that's hot when this machine is in motion. I know just enough about wiring to get shocked or start a fire, but am willing to learn.

The fuel pump has several nozzles on it to accept the vacuum line, and both the Fuel In and Fuel Out lines. After overhauling the eng, motor runs very good and strong the only problem is that through a hose from the eng that connects to the vac inlet on the fuel pump when eng runs the vent hole on the fuel pump starts to blow out eng oil.

While cars and gasoline-powered golf carts both have fuel pumps, the two operate very differently, so we've put together a short guide to help you know how to check your fuel pump — and what to do if you're worried it isn't working correctly.

Your golf cart's fuel pump is essentially vacuum-powered using crankcase pressure. While the more generally recognized term "compression" refers to the pressure limits at the top end of the engine, crankcase pressure actually refers to the pressure present at the bottom end, below the piston.

Can I run an electric fuel pump?

While the pistons move up and down, the crankcase pressure will vary; we call this a "pulse. The fuel pump has several nozzles on it — Fuel In accepts the gasoline, while Fuel Out sends it out the other side. If you take a look at your fuel pump, you will see that the Fuel In and Fuel Out areas are marked with arrows, while the unmarked nozzle is for the vacuum line. There are a few issues that can arise involving your fuel pump that would affect your gasoline-powered golf cart or ATV's performance over time.

Rubber vacuum and fuel lines will eventually deteriorate. This issue is far more common in older and pre-owned golf carts and ATVs that haven't been given regular tune-ups. If you're having problems with the fuel not making it to the carburetor, check the lines very closely. Even if you can't see deterioration, a telltale gasoline smell will let you know that they may have begun to fall apart.

Remember: a pin hole or other small area of damage may not be visible, so make sure to check for the fuel smell. Engine problems. Fuel issues aren't always caused by the fuel pump. Performance problems could also be caused by issues involving the crankcase or engine.

Reassemble using the lines you scratched or drew into the pump as a guide. The final possible issue could be the pump itself. The diaphragms within your fuel pump are fragile, and may break or develop tears with use or lack of maintenance. Over time, the fuel pump's ability to function will fade and eventually it will stop working entirely.If an engine is to work correctly, fuel needs to be delivered continuously and in fixed proportions to the engine.

This is the function of a well maintained fuel pulse pump. With the use of pulses, a pre-defined quantity of fuel is delivered to the engine in a steady stream. A pulse fuel pump has four tubes connected to it.

One tube connects the fuel tank. Two tubes connect each carburetor and one tube connects the crankcase of the engine. When the engine revolves, the tube connecting the engine delivers fuel with a pulse of pressure at each revolution.

They are separated by a pair of one way valves. These valves ensure that the fuel that passes through does not come back. Fuel flows from one chamber to the other at one pulse and at the next pulse, fuel moves to the engine.

A well maintained pump works at 5, pulses per minute. The bottom end of the engine crankcase is continuously subjected to a high or low pressure with every pulse. This pulse is transferred to the fuel pump by a pulse tube.

The pulse line connects the pulse chamber. The pressure of the crankcase is pushed by the pulse through a pair on one way valves and fuel passes continuously, and in a correct measure, to power the engine.

A pulse fuel pump has its own limitations.

One cannot estimate the fuel pressure capacity while going uphill. The fuel is likely to rise when the vehicle climbs. The amount of fuel is always limited to the pressure or pumping value of the crankcase. It is impossible to create too much pressure with a pulse pump for the carburetors float level. Pressure of the pump slowly decreases as the crank seals and gaskets begin to leak over time.

The pump should be mounted, keeping a distance away from the crankcase. If the pump is close to the crankcase, the pulse tube could become damp and the efficiency of pumping fuel will be greatly reduced. The pump should never be mounted on the crankcase of the engine.

This is because the engine vibrates. The vibration of the engine will affect the pulsating flow of fuel and the regulated flow of fuel enabled by the pump will be affected. The pulse line must be rigid enough to avoid becoming damp. The best way to mount the pump is to place it higher than the engine. This will ensure that fuel from the engine will not be able to flow back into the chamber of the pump. Rectangular pulse pumps are used for single carburetor applications.
